Department overview:
The Internal Audit department has over 190 staff globally and is a key part of Nomura’s corporate governance, reviewing the company's control environment and reporting any weaknesses identified to the Audit Committee and senior management.
The Internal Audit (IA) department adopts an integrated audit approach, and the Risk Culture audit team works closely with Regional Audit Heads and other Global Portfolio Audit Directors (GPDs) to develop an annual Risk Culture audit plan aligned to business needs and regulatory requirements.
The Asia ex-Japan (AEJ) Internal Audit team that this role sits in, comprises 32 permanent headcount of which 7 are located in Hong Kong, 21 in Singapore, 2 in Korea and 2 in Powai, covering all Nomura’s businesses in the region.

 

Role description:
Reporting into the Risk Culture Global Portfolio Director based in London, this role will be responsible for leading or supporting risk culture audits and thematic deep dives as well as delivering risk assessments, continuous monitoring, overseeing issue validation and being responsible for key relationships with audits teams globally.  

 

Responsibilities
Under supervision of the Risk Culture Global Portfolio Director, specific responsibilities include:
•    Perform risk assessments of Nomura’s of Risk Culture audit entities and assist in developing the annual audit plan. Stay abreast of emerging trends in risk culture assessment, best practices, and relevant regulatory changes in each of the regions in which Nomura operates and adjust the risk culture audit plan as necessary. 
•    Within the Nomura Internal Audit Methodology, support the planning and execution of the risk culture audit plan, including taking responsibility for specific aspects of the audit work, including:
o    Develop, deploy and assess responses to risk culture surveys,
o    Undertake cultural interviews, and assess relevant organizational data,
o    Utilize data analytics in support of accuracy and effectiveness,
o    Identify emerging risks and control gaps, drafting clear and actionable reports to senior management and stakeholders on audit findings, including recommendations for strengthening risk culture.
•    Perform and document aspects of Internal Audit’s Risk Culture continuous monitoring programme, in order to identify changes to risk assessments, audit plan or audit universe.
•    Follow up audit recommendations post-audit, assess residual risk, validate remedial work performed and close issues.
•    Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with Global and Regional Portfolio Directors and auditors across all regions as necessary. Act as a culture and behavioural SME to senior stakeholders and /or other team members.
•    Training & Awareness: Assist in developing and delivering training programs to raise awareness about risk culture embedment practices across internal audit global team.

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
o    At least 10 years of experience in financial service firms or consulting firms.
o    Experience in assessment reviews using behavioural science and/or applied psychology focused on organizational culture and/or cultural elements (risk culture experience an advantage).
o    Experience working with organizational research methods including data analytics, surveys, and qualitative interview techniques.    
o    Strong understanding of risk management frameworks, internal controls, and auditing techniques. Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards related to risk management (e.g., COSO, ISO 31000, Basel III).
o    Internal audit experience in the financial service sector, with a focus on assessing and enhancing organizational culture and risk behavior would be an advantage. 
o    International experience is strongly preferred.
o    Demonstrated ability to remain unbiased in a diverse working environment.
o    Knowledge and qualifications:
o    Effective comprehension of the role of the audit function in financial service firms and subject matter expertise regarding risk culture
o    A Master's degree in a relevant area is preferred. Professional certifications are a plus.

o    Strong stakeholder management skills with awareness of navigating different cultural approaches with a proven ability to collaborate and build relationships across departments with stakeholders at all levels of the firm.

o    Strong oral and written communication skills in English, the ability to present complex issues clearly to senior management and the confidence to influence and persuade stakeholders at various levels of the organization
