Department Overview
Nomura Loan Operations supports the Asia Ex-Japan Securitized Products & Private Credit Businesses. This is a high growth business, driven by innovative product portfolio, highly experienced team and strong franchise position, that operates in a rapidly expanding market segment.
Loans Operations works closely with the Loans Origination and Trading desk providing support in all pre and post trade execution, product life cycle to ensure accurate risk capture in the firm’s books and records. The candidate will act as the face-off between the Trading Desk and other stakeholders, identify and remediate control risks, maintain strong governance and drive strategic change initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Portfolio Operations & Life Cycle Management
o Oversee end-to-end life cycle events and controls to ensure loans transactions are processed timely and accurately
o Monitor portfolio activity, pipeline and volume to assess operational capacity requirements
o Validate deal documentation and ensure correct system/product set-up to capture risks correctly.
o Provide trade support for other products traded by the Loans desk including vanilla cash Bonds and Equities, vanilla derivative products, and credit insurance
-Control, Risk Management and Governance
o Maintain strong operational controls to ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements and audit standards
o Lead and perform root cause analysis and implement action plans to improve controls/ productivity
o Review and present risk and control updates to senior management. Ensure risks are captured with appropriate action plans to address and manage risks indicators within risk threshold
o Strong understanding of front to back trade flows as well as Risk and P&L
o Assess new product initiatives and ensure operational readiness to support with appropriate controls
-Stakeholder Management
o Main Operational contact for Front Office and regional stakeholders across functions (legal, compliance, Finance, other operational teams, etc).
o Drive engagement with stakeholders to plan and deliver new deal origination, new product launches and complex transaction planning.
o Handle escalations, resolve issues within agreed timeline and ensure smooth coordination across functions to support the business
o Liaise with external parties including trade counterparties, agents, banks, intermediaries, to ensure timely trade execution and settlement
-Process Improvements
o Drive automation and digitalization initiatives to improve productivity and enhance controls
o Implement best practices and utilize data to drive reviews and facilitate decision making.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years experience supporting loan products.
- Working knowledge of trade documentation for private credit business (i.e. LMA/ APLMA)
- Experience in syndicated loans, bilateral lending, agency servicing and loans products
- Prior experience with Loan IQ
- General knowledge of other Global Market products
- The candidate will need to manage and develop the team to deliver multiple priorities and support the business
- Strong stakeholder communication with confidence to challenge and escalate appropriately
- High attention to detail, with strong numerical skills and ability to manage operational risks
- Proven capability to manage complex transactions / resolve exceptions
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Demonstrating a strong sense of ownership and commitment to delivery
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to adapt to dynamic situations
- Self-motivated person, not afraid to suggest changes and re-invest process
