The Whole Loan Trading department is responsible for the acquisition, sale, and management of whole loan portfolios across various asset classes, including residential, commercial, consumer, and specialty finance loans. Our team plays a critical role in optimizing portfolio performance, managing risk, and maximizing returns through strategic trading, market intelligence, and relationship management.

We work closely with loan originators, institutional investors, banks, hedge funds, private equity firms, and servicers to source, evaluate, and execute whole loan transactions. By leveraging deep market expertise, data-driven analytics, and innovative trading strategies, our department ensures seamless execution of trades while maintaining compliance with industry regulations and internal risk management policies.

 

 

Role Description

 

We are seeking an experienced Whole Loan Trader to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, analyzing, pricing, and executing trades of whole loan portfolios across various asset classes, including residential and commercial loans. This role requires strong analytical skills, deep market knowledge, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with counterparties, investors, and financial institutions.

 

 

Job Duties

 

  • Loan Trading & Execution: Identify, evaluate, and execute whole loan transactions, ensuring competitive pricing and optimal risk-adjusted returns.

  • Market Analysis: Monitor market trends, pricing dynamics, and regulatory changes to inform trading strategies.

  • Due Diligence: Conduct thorough credit, collateral, and performance analysis of loan portfolios.

  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks associated with loan acquisitions and sales.

  • Relationship Management: Develop and maintain relationships with originators, servicers, institutional investors, and other market participants.

  • Financial Modeling: Utilize financial models and data analytics to support trade decisions and optimize portfolio performance.

  • Deal Structuring: Negotiate terms, pricing, and contract agreements with counterparties.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant industry regulations and company policies.

 

 

 

Skills, Experience, Qualifications and Knowledge Required

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field (MBA or CFA preferred).

  • 3+ years of experience in whole loan trading, mortgage banking, or structured finance.

  • Strong understanding of mortgage products, credit underwriting, and loan performance analytics.

  • Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and valuation methodologies.

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience with secondary market loan sales and purchases.

  • Knowledge of mortgage-backed securities (MBS) and structured products.

  • Familiarity with loan origination, servicing, and asset management processes
