Division Overview: Nomura Capital Management

Nomura Capital Management (NCM) is seeking to recruit a seasoned Vice President to work on manager research and selection in the Private Credit Team for the Nomura Alternative Income Fund (NAIFX).  The candidate will play a critical role in sourcing and managing best-in-class GPs while working closely with NAIFX portfolio managers to deploy capital effectively. The candidate will focus primarily on US-based managers in Asset-Based Lending, Specialty Finance, and Real Estate Debt who offer both private credit funds and co-investments.

Position:

Nomura Capital Management (NCM) is seeking to recruit a seasoned Vice President to work on manager research and selection in the Private Credit Team for the Nomura Alternative Income Fund (NAIFX).  The candidate will play a critical role in sourcing and managing best-in-class GPs while working closely with NAIFX portfolio managers to deploy capital effectively. The candidate will focus primarily on US-based managers in Asset-Based Lending, Specialty Finance, and Real Estate Debt who offer both private credit funds and co-investments.

The ideal candidate will possess extensive quantitative, data management and research skills, and will be intimately familiar with interval funds, private credit portfolio construction and risk management. 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of sourcing and conducting due diligence on prospective investment managers within asset-based, specialty finance and private real estate debt. The Vice President will source GPs primarily by engaging with fund managers, industry participants, placement agents, investment consultants and their own peer network. Investments may take varying forms including limited partnerships with fund managers, SPV/JVs, co-investments and secondaries market purchases. The candidate should be interested in initiating and creating thematic market research to build market maps, identify new sub-strategies and emerging managers with specialist niches.  This candidate will leverage their prior experience, network and the broader NCM and Nomura organizations to help deploy capital in a consistent, methodical way to generate superior risk adjusted returns. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the ideation, screening, vetting, analyzing, negotiations and IDD on external GPs.
  • Lead the managing, servicing, reviews, monitoring and surveillance of GPs in the portfolio.
  • Build performance analytics, attribution and reporting tools to track GP performance.
  • Work closely with the Head of Portfolio Management & Manager Research on strategic direction, new ideas, themes, target GPs, and sourcing channels.
  • Oversee ODD and LDD process, coordinating with internal and external counterparties. 
  • Manage multiple investment processes with team members in parallel to drive results.
  • Maintain and expand a network of investment partners to identify and underwrite primary, secondary, and co-investment opportunities.
  • Manage, develop, and mentor junior resources.
  • Maintain a pipeline of actionable ideas and emerging themes as the opportunity set continuously evolves. 
  • Prepare investment memoranda and related documentation for Investment Committee and monitoring post execution.  
  • Continuously evaluate existing portfolio exposures (across fund investments and co-investments) by tracking key exposures, risk factors, and having regular dialogue with fund managers and industry participants. 
  • Continuously improve and optimize investment diligence, monitoring and reporting. 

In all of these activities, the candidate will collaborate with teams both internally and externally and across functions—Risk Management, Legal, Compliance, Data providers, Distribution partners, Counterparties, Technology Vendors, Operations, Accounting, etc.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of relevant credit experience in private asset-based, specialty finance and real estate credit and a deep understanding of the alternative investment landscape.
  • Manager research experience at a private credit investment firm or group (e.g. pension fund, insurance company, fund of funds, investment consultant, wealth management platform, OCIO, endowment, foundation, sovereign wealth fund, family office, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Interval fund experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of the credit market, with a passion for investing and the ability to speak, write, and present intelligently and commercially. 
  • A mindset of capital preservation with continuous risk measurement, management and mitigation. 
  • A self-starter who is commercial and results-oriented in building long-term partnerships with GPs.
  • An individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and works with a sense of urgency while never compromising on diligence. 
  • An individual who has a demonstrated track record of alpha generation, and a strong understanding of credit analysis.
  • Intellectually curious, detail-oriented with deep multi-tasking and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of fixed income and securitization market dynamics is a plus.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and a high degree of investment acumen.
  • Uncompromised integrity and honesty; someone who will operate as a true fiduciary on behalf of clients.
  • Collaborative with interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with cross-functional teams such as legal, operations, tax, and external teams. 
  • Comfortable and excited to operate in an entrepreneurial culture and contribute to the scaling of a business unit within a broader organization. 
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills required; experience automating and enhancing reporting processes a plus; working knowledge of PowerBI and R/Python (or equivalent) is ideal
  • Strong academic credentials. MBA and/or CFA/CAIA is required with thorough knowledge of modern portfolio theory, strategic and tactical asset allocation, and risk management.
