Role Description:

The Senior Storage & Backup Engineer will be responsible for managing the global data protection and archiving software and hardware. This will include ensuring operations run consistently and that data is backed up or archived within agreed service level agreements. As the senior data protection engineer, be responsible for platform upgrades and service improvements. Provide technical guidance to other members of the team or peers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure alignment for policy, process, procedures, software configuration and hardware types across all 3 regions.
  • Maintain standard documentation and ensure adherence to the global standard is followed.
  • Maintain 100% service uptime.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and business needs.
  • Build productive working relationships with peer teams and managers to become recognized Storage Automation SME.
  • Develop multi-year Technology Roadmaps and deliver against for approved projects.
  • Automate repetitive tasks, such as BAU provisioning and de-provisioning.

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

  • The candidate will be expected to have significant recent experience of administrating or building one or more traditional storage solutions and one or more software-defined storage solutions.
  • The candidate is preferred to have experience of enterprise backup solutions.
  • The candidate is expected to be proficient in developing automated solution designs to a professional standard, leveraging ServiceNow API’s.
  • The candidate must have strong knowledge of Hitachi and Everpure block, file and object storage solutions.
  • The candidate must have experience of providing storage across FC SAN, iSCSI and Ethernet.
  • The candidate should have strong OS and networking knowledge.
  • Familiar with LTO, S3 object storage, shared filesystems and AWS & Azure O365 offerings.
  • Familiar with scripting, automation tooling, such as Python, Ansible and API’s.
  • Experience of using and integrating with ServiceNow and Jira for no touch provisioning.
  • Able to articulate cyber threats to the storage & backup service and what is needed to provide a defense of last resort.
  • Able to articulate cyber threats to the business and how the Backup Service can be used for mass recovery at speed.
  • Demonstrate how external and internal audits have been engaged in the past and what strategies were used to show that the backup service is appropriately managed.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

  • 10+ years’ experience of block and file storage
  • 8+ years’ experience of backup solutions.
  • Experience administrating solutions within a regulated environment, i.e. Financial Services.
  • 3+ years’ experience of S3 object storage solutions.
  • RedHat/CentOS and Windows operating system knowledge.
  • Network, F5 load balancer and firewall knowledge.
  • Public cloud provider exposure. AWS mainly.
