Department overview:
We are looking for an experienced media relations professional to join our busy team. You will support the Head of Corporate Communications in providing strategic media relations advice, playing a key role in developing and executing our external communication strategy to support our strategic goals.
We will look to you to deliver day-to-day promotion of the firm as well as handling reactive, sometimes challenging issues in the financial, trade and broadcast media. You will have the ability to develop and maintain key relationships with journalists and stakeholders throughout the business, providing excellent media relations advice and support.
Role description:
- Supporting the Head of Corporate Communications as required in providing strategic communications advice and crisis communications counsel
- Working with colleagues across the business and the global communications team to ensure alignment of global messages externally and internally
- Preparing press releases, media materials, announcements and briefing points which align to Nomura’s global narrative and core messages
- Securing positive media coverage and supporting on award applications as needed
- Having an excellent network of journalist contacts to ensure the strategy of the bank is effectively and accurately communicated
- Maintaining a robust governance process partnering with Compliance, Technology, Business Resilience, Legal and Corporate Communications colleagues globally, ensuring all stakeholders have every opportunity to contribute in line with the strategic priorities and governance framework
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
- 10+ years of experience in senior level communications within a large matrix financial services organization
- Extensive experience in media relations ideally within an investment banking environment
- 5+ years in a management / leadership role with direct management of staff
- Background in a busy press office or agency a must
- Proven experience in the creation and implementation of a strategic media relations plan to support global business objectives
- Plan and support senior spokespeople with effective messaging
- Experience of gaining press coverage through a range of means, such as press releases, social media, managing events, research and case studies
- A strong grasp, and interest in, political and economic issues and the financial markets
- A knowledge of key financial media and an understanding of their requirements
- Strong written and verbal communications
- Strong news sense and judgement: ability to identify story ideas and content; excellent narrative/key messaging ability
- Ability to work within team-oriented global culture, handling sensitive information under pressure
- The ability to be flexible and multi-task on a daily basis, managing ongoing projects as well as ad-hoc issues that demand immediate attention
- Excellent interpersonal, team-working and organizational skills
- Bachelors or higher level degree required
*base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, corporate and functional title and duties, job-related knowledge and advanced degrees, skills, and experience.
