Role Overview:
Nomura is seeking an experienced operations specialist to support and enhance its global cryptographic infrastructure. This role underpins the security of the firm’s trading, settlement, and client-facing platforms by ensuring robust, reliable, and compliant use of encryption technologies across the organisation. We are looking for someone with strong operational discipline, excellent analytical capability, and hands-on expertise managing hardware security modules and public key infrastructure in complex financial environments.
The role sits within the global Identity and Access Management team and plays a key part in safeguarding the firm’s trading, operational, and client-facing platforms. This is a hybrid position based in Mumbai, with two mandatory office days each week.
You will be working as part of a follow-the-sun operational model with colleagues in Japan, India, EMEA, and the US. You will be expected to provide BAU support once every four weeks as part of the rota (including weekends), and spend the remaining time delivering projects, enhancements, and handovers received from the Engineering team.
Role Description:
- Provide technical operational leadership for cryptographic and data-protection platforms including Key Management Services, Public Key Infrastructure and HSMs.
- Provide technical operational leadership for Privileged Access and MFA tooling such as: CyberArk Privileged Access Management, and MFA technologies such as Duo or SecurID.
- Work with engineering to support the delivery of new services and platform improvements to existing platforms to enhance resilience, automation, and operational efficiency.
- In an L2/L3 capacity, operate, maintain and resolve operational issues with Nomura’s Key Management and Public Key Infrastructure platforms including Key Management Services, HSMs and PKI components (CLMs, RAs, VAs, CAs, etc) through a follow-the-sun model.
- Support day-to-day operational ceremonies required for Key Management and PKI, such as high-assurance key-signing ceremonies, key lifecycle and inventory management.
- Support teams deploying key management and public key infrastructure to enable data protection and Identity needs in-line with solutions developed by engineering.
- Maintain high-quality operational documentation, runbooks, and incident response procedures.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior operations staff within the operations group.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience operating Key Management and Public Key infrastructure in a financial-services or other high-security environment.
- Strong understanding of how key management and PKI operate to enable data protection and identity capabilities.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with HSM platforms (e.g. Thales, Utimaco, Entrust, or equivalent).
- Demonstrable hand-on experience with Key Management Systems (e.g. Entrust KeyControl and Thales Cipher Trust Manager)
- Expertise operating enterprise PKI including detailed technical understanding.
- Familiarity with cloud cryptographic services in regulated environments (e.g. AWS KMS, Azure Key Vault, or GCP KMS).
- Strong operational background with rigorous change management, incident handling, and availability requirements (ITIL familiarity preferred).
- Scripting or automation skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash or similar).
- Infrastructure as code familiarity (Terraform, Ansible, etc)
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management capability across global teams.
- Proven ability to operate in time-sensitive, business-critical environments supporting trading and operational systems.
- Exposure to major transformation programs involving PKI redesign, HSM migrations, or cryptographic automation.
- Security certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or vendor-specific qualifications.
- Excellent English communication skills: written, verbal, and presentation.
