Department overview:

The Americas Operational Risk Management (ORM) team is part of the Risk organization under the CRO and is responsible for the development and ongoing support of a consistent Firm-wide risk and control framework. The framework must meet both global and local regulatory requirements, as well as the needs of senior management and the business lines. The key objectives of the team include the identification of Operational Risks, identification of control gaps, reduction of losses, the protection of both our clients and the Firm and to avoid any regulatory impact/scrutiny, leveraging the Four Pillars of the Operational Risk Management Framework:

  • Operational Risk Event Reporting
  • Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA)
  • Key Risk Indicators (KRI)
  • Scenario Analysis

 

Role Description:

As a key member of the Americas Operational Risk Management team, this is a highly visible role with considerable growth potential and broad responsibilities. The position will involve:

  • Leading 2nd Line of Defense Operational Risk oversight of the various First Line Functions across Nomura
  • Acting as an independent challenge function to the business by providing independent feedback and escalation
  • Conducting deep-dives and Targeted Risk Assessments of areas of processes of concern
  • Recording and analyzing of Operational Risk Events and suggesting / monitoring remediation actions to ensure appropriate actions are taken to mitigate control weaknesses
  • Leading regular Risk meetings with senior Stakeholders and reviewing Business Unit RCSAs, KRIs and Events
  • Partnering closely with regional and global Operational Risk Managers, Lines of Business COOs and Business Control teams to actively manage day to day operational risk
  • Driving the implementation of all components of the Operational Risk Management Framework (KRI’s, RCSA’s, Op Risk Event Mgmt., Reporting to Senior Management) and embedding risk culture across the organization
  • Liaising with Compliance, Internal Audit and other Risk types to ensure alignment of objectives, coverage and strong information flow

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

  • Prior experience in working with Front Office / Sales & Trading preferred
  • Operational Risk background, preferably covering Technology, IT Security and/or Vendor Risk
  • Strong knowledge of Global Markets cash and derivative products
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to analyze problems and formulate conclusions and recommendations
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Excellent leadership skills with ability to build strong relationships and influence stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently on complex tasks / projects and provide regular progress reports to management
  • Bachelor’s Degree with strong academic qualification
  • Ability to speak confidently and authoritatively on a range of subjects
  • At least 5-7 years of experience within Financial Services
