Position Overview

 

Nomura is seeking an experienced Global Operations professional to drive the evolution and support of our cloud platforms. With a focus on Public Cloud, and some exposure to Private Cloud, the candidate should have strong technical, functional and analytical skills with experience in automating and supporting critical infrastructure in AWS.

As a key part of the Cloud Operations team, you'll collaborate with internal partners to modernize our application landscape, enabling IT teams to implement automated deployment pipelines and reduce dependency on legacy systems. You will spearhead the automation and modernization of our cloud operations, with a focus on AWS infrastructure management and support.

This role requires proficient communication and stakeholder management, as well as the creative use of available tools to efficiently produce solutions in the cloud technology space.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • Provide leadership to the Global Cloud Operations team providing 24x7 support to the user community according to the follow-the-sun support (FTSS) model, which includes an on-call rotation and potential weekend work as needed.
  • Drive modernization and upskilling of the cloud operations function using established SRE patterns such as observability and reduction of TOIL.
  • Deliver Public Cloud projects and enhancements through direct contribution of design and code in coordination with the Cloud Engineering team.
  • Manage stakeholder engagement by providing cloud SME capabilities for the user community.
  • Champion established best practices for the use of cloud across a wide range of use cases and consumption models.
  • Effectively develop and maintain robust Infrastructure and Code and other automation artifacts for infrastructure deployment, common tasks and to help resolve technical problems.
  • Optimize existing cloud systems, and evolve them by pursuing measured changes that improve reliability and stability while maintaining deployment velocity
  • Act with a sense of urgency when issues arise, engaging relevant parties to assist with troubleshooting and investigating of problems until a resolution is reached
  • Work in hybrid environment with applications being hosted internally and on cloud platforms.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with peers, management, and leadership teams.

 

Key Skills and Experience

 

  • 5 or more years of hands-on experience with automation technologies to build, deploy, and integrate infrastructure and applications (e.g. Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Ansible)
  • 2 or more years of hands-on experience working with Kubernetes, (EKS/Rancher)
  • 5 or more years of infrastructure operations experience in cloud-based environments (AWS)
  • 5 or more years of administration and support of production Linux / Windows / Cloud systems, including troubleshooting and triage of business impacting incidents
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent work experience

Desired Skills:

  • Experience of managing cloud platforms and infrastructure using established IAC technologies (Terraform and Terraform Enterprise) and practices.
  • Proficiency in automation technologies, writing scripts in Python/Ansible to interact with Cloud Provider APIs
  • Experience with code repos (Git), project tracking (Jira) and ITIL Ticketing (ServiceNow) systems, GitOps Frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of cloud supporting technologies such as networking IDAM and DDI
  • Exposure to on premise cloud based technologies such as VMWare and Fibre attached SAN
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and challenging technical environment, with the aim of producing meaningful results for the business.
  • Track record of interest and understanding of current and emerging technologies demonstrated through training, job experience, and/or industry activities.
  • Personal integrity, professionalism surrounding confidential matters, and an appropriate level of judgement as it relates to the Financial Services industry
