Department overview:

The International Investment Management Strategy team plays a pivotal role in shaping Nomura’s near and longer term strategy. The Strategy team works closely with senior leadership on a range of management initiatives including business expansion strategy, mergers & acquisitions, market & competitor analysis, business planning and performance reviews, and client strategy. The team works directly with Senior Management to determine the right strategy for reaching Nomura’s Investment Management aspirations across businesses and regions in a rapidly changing market environment.

 

 

Role description:

The Analyst will be a key member of Nomura’s Investment Management Strategy team focused on strategic initiatives internationally. They will work closely with global and regional Investment Management leadership teams, as well as with key Corporate teams such as Finance, Planning, and Marketing.   

  • Provide analytical support on Investment Management strategy initiatives, with a focus on strategic development, long term business growth, and overall positioning of the franchise.
  • Identify, analyze and monitor issues that affect profitability, growth, and productivity.
  • Conduct competitor / industry research and analysis leveraging both public and non-public sources.
  • Research and analyze business profitability and macroeconomic indicators, analyze specific client segments, conduct acquisition screening, and perform strategic due diligence.
  • Prepare management presentations including business plans, business reviews, offsite presentations, town halls, etc.
  • Work closely with Global Strategy teams on broader firm-wide and cross-divisional initiatives.

 

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a consulting firm or a strategy / operations / business planning unit of a financial institution.
  • Experience in / foundational understanding of Investment Management industry.
  • Strong analytical skills, including ability to develop financial models and perform data analysis.
  • Strong PowerPoint and Excel proficiency.
  • Strong communications skills (verbal and written) – ability to interact confidently with senior business leadership on a range of topics.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and initiatives while meeting timelines and expectations for high quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative, proactively problem solve, and collaborate with team members.
  • Interest in the wider Investment Management industry including key trends and market dynamics (e.g., market structure, competitive landscape, client / product demand).

*base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, corporate and functional title and duties, job-related knowledge and advanced degrees, skills, and experience.
