Department Overview:
The IBD Product control team supports the Investment Banking division as well as the Syndication desks in Global Markets. Product Control is responsible for Daily PL Reporting, Flash to Actual analysis, Front to Back reconciliations, P&L Commentary, Manual Adjustment review, Month-end general ledger close, Balance Sheet Attestation & Reconciliation, Quarterly Financial Reporting, assist with Internal and External Auditors, and ad-hoc analysis. Works closely with Banking deal teams, Syndicate trading desks, Middle Office/Ops, Financial Reporting, Regulatory, IPV teams, and Internal and External Auditors.
Role Description / Areas of responsibility:
- Responsible for timely daily & monthly reporting of P&L, analysis, and commentary.
- Analyze and explain flash versus actual P&L variances, monitor front to back processes to ensure sufficient controls and investigation on breaks.
- Support the Banking teams, front office traders, ability to work with inter-departments to pursue business and control solutions.
- Work closely with trading desk & operations to resolve any trade booking and/or valuation issues.
- Perform month-end reconciliations on P&L and balance sheet, and monitor intercompany receivables/payables.
- Work closely with Banking deal teams on calculating new deal returns and communicating in a timely fashion to senior front office and finance management.
- Take responsibility for the accuracy of the firm’s financial books and records.
- Participate in new projects and initiatives, ad-hoc issues and system enhancement UAT.
- Provide information and support to internal and external auditors.
- Responsible for quarterly financial reporting and Americas Portfolio Returns presentations.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge preferred
- 2+ years of Product Control experience in Fixed Income, Equities or Banking.
- Experience with daily P&L reconciliations/reporting, Balance Sheet reporting and Month End GL close.
- BS in Finance, Economics or Accounting
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, work in fast paced, and team based environment
- Proactive, self-starter, who can be dynamic and implement process changes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage trader queries and/or difficult situations.
