The Market Data Content team is part of the Wholesale Data and Operations Technology division. Within the wider Market Data Content team, the Vendor Manager role spans our global business. Market Data Content is the service delivery owner for content acquisition, data governance and financial management, for Market, Pricing and Reference Data as well as Publications and Subscription.
Market Data Content is a Global function with regional teams based in Japan, London, Hong Kong, New York and Powai. The roles within the Content team include Vendor Managers, Business Analysts and Operations. Working together, we strive to offer the business access to the services they need in both an efficient manner and at the right cost.
Role description:
Nomura are seeking a Market Data Vendor Manager to support business units across EMEA and US. The Vendor Manager will be responsible for the day to day management and governance across all market data suppliers.The role is based in New York and the successful candidate will work as part of an existing team, reporting to the Global Head of Market Data Content.
This role is a highly interactive with both our internal stakeholders and external data providers. The successful candidate will need to establish a baseline knowledge of our current utilization of data. They will be required to monitor and manage contracts. This will include performing analysis into the service usage to establish whether the service is still required, terminated or an alternative explored.
The candidate will be required to negotiate new service agreements, including commercial review - to ensure any commercial risks are identified and mitigated and legal analysis -in collaboration with Nomura legal teams. Vendor Managers also need to adhere to the firms Vendor Management Office framework.
Working with the Operations team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that services are updated in the inventory accurately and in a timely manner. The successful candidate will also work closely with the Business Analyst team to evaluate requests for products and services, taking into account cost reduction, data quality improvements and optimum value for money, sourcing the most competitive price and obtaining proper authorization.
There will also be a requirement to participate in various projects across the business and to provide various MIS reports, as well as generating and implementing saves initiatives. In addition, there will be a requirement to work alongside the technology and operations teams to implement automation within Market Data.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to gain the respect of existing team members globally. They will also demonstrate an ability to rise to the challenge when cost reduction or similar programs are initiated.
Key objectives critical to success:
- Take ownership of vendor contracts, including acting as the lead contract negotiator for appointed vendors and services and maintaining oversight of the service throughout the life cycle of the agreement.
- Work with Legal and Compliance teams where necessary to ensure that all contracts are commercially and legally sound and approved before signature.
- Work with the Vendor Management Office to ensure Market Data contracts are appropriately documented to meet regulatory standards. This will include the implementation of service SLAs and working closely with the vendor to understand their product roadmap and technologies.
- Develop functional and commercially strong relationships with vendors and stay abreast of service developments and changes within the industry
- A good understanding of Exchange policy and compliance and ensure correct exchange licenses are in place to minimize the risk of data audits.
- Collaboration with global team members in other regions and divisions, working effectively remotely and across time zones.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required
Essential
- Previous experience in a Market Data Commercial team for a financial institution, providing Market Data Vendor Management support.
- Ability to demonstrate good knowledge of Market and Reference Data providers and their associated products.
- Knowledge of vendor pricing models across various product categories
- A good understanding of all delivery systems.
- A good knowledge of the Global Markets, Research and Investment Banking activities.
- A sound understanding of external data governance and experience in owning and communicating restrictions to relevant parties
- Ability to help construct usage restriction documentation for dissemination to Front Office and Application Development
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong Excel skills are required.
- Demonstrated ability to succinctly communicate critical issues to senior management
- Demonstrated attention to detail and highly process driven
Desirable
- Previous experience and attendance at Industry forums and an awareness of key issues within the wider Market Data licensing community.
- Strong industry connections and prior vendor relationships
- Working knowledge of MDSL’s MDM and RPM system
- Previous experience with product displacements and cost optimization programs with Front Office
- Involvement in projects from inception to successful conclusion.
- Ability to leverage prior experience to optimize workflows for greater efficiencies
- Interest in automation as it relates to process and manual tasks
