Department Overview:

Chief Data Office is the Group Central Data, Cloud, and AI Governance arm that works closely with the Group Businesses and Group Corporate functions to enable the execution of Nomura Group Strategy through Robust Data Standards & Governance, produce Actionable Performance Metrics & MIS, whilst ensuring Group-wide Risk & Control effectiveness aligned to its Governance objectives

 

 

Role Overview:

Drive development and implementation of Data Management Framework, monitor and enforce compliance of Data Management Policies & Standards, improve data quality, manage protection of sensitive data and information assets across Nomura Group whilst enhancing controls / control frameworks

 

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead implementation of Nomura’s Data Management Framework. Proven experience in successfully implementing enterprise-wide data governance framework with a focus on interoperability, improvement of data quality, and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organization behavior, policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture.
  • Exceptional data management experience & technical skills. State-of-the-art expertise in all facets of data management, including non-invasive data management, using analytics in data management, and large-scale automation of data management activities.
  • Data Transfer & Security: Expertise in developing and implementing data transfer & security standards. Experienced in implementing regulatory requirements and industry best practices for transferring data and applications from on premise to Cloud and across geographical borders.
  • Expertise in Data Management Tools. Experienced in providing Strategy and Roadmap to develop Data Management products & tools and to operationalize those tools.
  • Strong analytics experience & technical skills. State-of-the-art expertise in analytics to ensure the data management products are MI & analytics enabling.
  • Data management visionary. Envisage and deliver leading edge data management products to Nomura’s businesses, strategically partnering both internally and externally to deliver best practice products.
  • Be a trusted partner. Shape the data management agenda at Nomura, and work with all of Nomura’s businesses & functions in laying out their data management enhancement roadmaps.
  • Support a strong delivery team. Lead, mentor and grow a global team of data management experts capable of transforming Nomura across enterprise data assets.

 

 

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

 

  • Minimum of 4+ years of overall experience in Data Management or Data Governance
  • BA / BS in a technical field (Computer Science, Data Science), Finance, or Business
  • Financial Services and other adjacent commercial / investment banking, asset & investment management, or brokerage-centric business experience is required
  • Understanding of business processes across the financial services industry, their related business lines (Global Markets, Asset Mgmt, Investment Mgmt, Commercial/Core banking, Insurance) and related support functions (Finance, Risk, Operations, Compliance, Legal)
  • Data-at-Rest / Data-in-Motion: expertise in developing and implementing Enterprise-level Business Glossaries, Data Catalogs, taxonomies, Data Lineage, and Data Models
  • Deliver value and reduce risks by resolving Data Quality Issues affecting completeness, accuracy, and timeliness and develop frameworks and operating models to manage the Data Issues
  • Collaborate with regional data governance peers, stewards, custodians, business process owners, and SMEs to ensure consistency and alignment of data governance practices and data policies & standards adherence
  • Hands-on experience in supporting workflows that support application of internal and regulatory standards for Data Transfers, including Cross Border on-premise and on-Cloud.
  • Experience defining and applying KPIs/KRIs to measure, monitor, and drive data governance policies & standards adherence, and for managing and reporting status of own deliverables
  • Technical hands-on knowledge using Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and PowerBI.
  • Strong stakeholder management predisposition / service orientation along with collaboration, change-management, and influencing skills.
  • Understands and utilizes project management lifecycle thinking around structuring & executing data governance deliverables. Comfortable working / using waterfall and agile methodologies
  • Able to collaborate / virtually manage multi-cultural, multi-disciplined, globally dispersed team (requires comfort starting workday early to accommodate the Asia & European regions)
  • Highly organized with ability to prioritize and support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfort using Generative AI to enhance productivity & efficiency.
  • Confidence to thoughtfully contemplate, risk assess and take decisions on their own.
