As part of its efforts to expand its investment management business in the Americas and enhance its overall offering, Nomura Holding America Inc. has established a new business line – Nomura Capital Management (NCM). NCM will focus on providing RIAs and their clients with access to private markets.  The first strategy brought to market provides diversified exposure to private credit sectors through a closed-end interval fund structure. The second fund launched is a private credit drawdown strategy.  Additional products/strategies will be developed in other private markets such as real estate, infrastructure, private equity or venture capital (e.g., potentially including non-traded REIT/BDCs, open/closed-end private funds or similar structures).

 

 

Overview of Position

 

Nomura Capital Management (NCM) is seeking to recruit a seasoned execution vice president to work on the Opportunistic Private Credit Team with a real estate focus.  The candidate will play a critical role in managing deal execution and working closely with senior leadership to deploy capital effectively.  The Opportunistic Private Credit Team invests capital out of two vehicles, an interval fund and a private credit draw down fund, on behalf of 3rd party clients.  The funds have an asset-based focus, of which real estate (both commercial and residential) is a significant component.  The initial focus will be executing transactions on behalf of both funds. 

As the business grows, it is envisioned the experienced vice president’s role will also encompass sourcing and origination.  The experienced execution vice president will have 6-10 years of credit experience across residential, commercial real estate, and structured credit.  Prior experience should include securitized products such as RMBS and CMBS, as well as whole loans, B notes and Mezz.  The ideal candidate will be results oriented, data-driven and committed to generating strong risk-adjusted returns for our investors.  In addition, the candidate will need to be able to succinctly articulate his/her ideas both internally and externally with borrowers, lawyers, advisors etc. to be successful at driving outcomes.       

 

 

Responsibilities

 

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record investing across a variety of real estate private credit instruments (mortgages, whole loans, CMBS, Mezz).  In addition, familiarity with other commercial and consumer asset-based sectors is helpful.  This candidate will leverage their prior experience, network and the broader NCM and Nomura organizations to deploy capital in a consistent, methodical way to generate superior risk adjusted returns.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Perform fundamental credit analysis to structure and underwrite asset-based investment opportunities on behalf of a private credit draw down fund and interval fund independently and in conjunction with investment partners. 

  • Oversee deal structuring and execution, coordinating with internal and external counterparties. 

  • Ability to manage multiple investment processes with junior resources in parallel to drive results.

  • Ability to execute internally originated transactions as well as co-investments from other investment partners.    

  • Management, development, and mentorship of junior resources.

  • Maintain a pipeline of actionable ideas and emerging themes as the opportunity set continuously evolves. 

  • Prepare investment memoranda and related documentation for Investment Committee and monitoring post execution.  

  • Manage investments post-closing and develop roadmap to harvest investments over time.  Be the first line of defense for continuous credit quality monitoring.     

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • 6-10 years of relevant credit experience investing in real estate credit investments.

  • A deep knowledge of the credit market, with a passion for the market and ability to speak intelligently and commercially. 

  • A detail-oriented, self-starter who is results-oriented.

  • An individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and works with a sense of urgency while never compromising on diligence. 

  • An individual who has a demonstrated track record of execution.

  • Strong analytical capabilities and a high degree of investment acumen.
