Divisional Overview:

Global Markets Powai team is an extension of regional Global Markets teams supporting Securitized Products, Rates, FX, Credit and Equities. The division in Powai provides support for a range of activities like research, quantitative modelling, sales and trading support, pricing and balancing, product development and strategy. Powai operation is a critical part of the platform to support the growth of Nomura’s global business.

 

 

Business Overview:

 

Algo Strategies team (Mumbai) is a part of the Global Quants team which is spread across London, New York, Singapore and Mumbai. The Mumbai team consists of people with highly numerate backgrounds such as B.Techs, M.Techs in electrical engineering, computer science engineering, Masters or PhDs in Statistics, Maths, Quantitative Finance and Physics. All members of the team are proficient in some programming language.

 

FI Strategy team sits within Algo Strategies team in Nomura’s Global Markets Powai division. Desk aligned strat team is at the intersection of quantitative innovation and trading execution, partnering with senior Strats and front-office desks to design, build, and deploy cutting-edge tools and analytics,  and drive operational efficiency, automate workflows, and unlock new revenue opportunities that directly enhance Nomura's trading capabilities and competitive edge.

 

This is a very exciting opportunity to be a key part of this growing team who are focused on building out the data and analytics platform using new technologies. You will be working with the wider Strat team in London to ensure that the products delivered are up to the highest standards.

 

Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, C, C++ is a plus. Candidates should have interest in number crunching and should have an aptitude for analysing in detail vast amounts of data.

Role & Responsibilities

  • We are looking to hire a team of Strats who work directly with traders and salespeople as part of our Data and Analytics Strats or Desk-Aligned Strats team.

 

  • The role involves work alongside senior Strats as well as the trading and sales desks to develop ideas and productionise tools and analytics that create efficiencies, automate and provide new opportunities and benefit Nomura’s trading business.

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

 

 
 

 

  • An undergraduate degree in a related discipline is required (e.g. Finance, Computer Science). A Master’s degree in a finance/IT focused discipline is an advantage (e.g. Financial Engineering, Computational Finance)
  • Experience in coding is required, with exposure to generative AI coding tools such as Claude Code. Experience coding in a broad set of languages or having strong experience in Python are an advantage. You will need to want to become a Python/AI domain expert.
  • Product knowledge is not a prerequisite, however it will be an advantage and the candidate must have the desire to learn.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in either a technology role or have a strong academic background in computer science and will bring additional engineering rigour to the role. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for a role within front office that will leverage their experience building robust technology solutions.
  • Role will be part of the FO – with much trading / sales interaction but will also require liaising with other IT / quant groups around the Firm to ensure they deliver our requirements. Candidates should be comfortable working in this fast-paced and high pressure environment and have the requisite soft skills to excel.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities across technical and business teams, and innovative approach to automation and process improvement
  • Familiarity with AI coding assistants and ability to effectively leverage them while maintaining code quality standards
