Nomura Services India Pvt ltd, (Powai) supports Nomura’s businesses around the world. Powai’s capabilities in trading support, research, information technology, financial control, operations, risk management and legal support have played a key role in facilitating Nomura’s global operations and are an integral part of Nomura’s global expansion plans. The Powai operation is a critical part of the platform to support the growth of Nomura’s global business.
2nd Line ORM (Operational Risk Management) - Business Unit Overview:
Operational Risk Management (ORM) is a 2nd line of defense governance function providing an integrated operational risk guidance, Non-Financial Risk advisory services enabling Powai to establish, maintain and improve a forward-looking risk culture and best practices. The team has close engagements with Powai Divisions in promoting & sustaining global risk and control best practices, adherence to global operational risk policies thereby establishing a mind-set shift amongst all divisions in managing operational risk in the most forward-looking manner. Operational Risk management framework is fully embedded in Powai across all divisions with adequate risk monitoring and event escalation mechanisms. In line with overarching vision of CCO and Powai leadership team, the function endeavors to build an eco-system, where operational risk is a central theme for all divisions in building a control conscious organization
Operational risk management (ORM) has 4 teams i.e. Core ORM (Business advisory team), Central ORM framework support, Global Risk Analytics and NEHS Scenario support. These 4 teams within ORM report locally to Powai Head of Operational Risk Management & is functionally aligned to respective Global Onshore Leadership Team. This role opening for VP is in Core ORM business advisory

Role & Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Japan, AEJ, EMEA, US ORM SPOCs to consolidate Operations/Global Middle office risk agenda for cross-regional coordination and global ORM execution
Establish communication loops with Global ORM-Global Portfolio Directors/team on progress, red flags and centrally track and project manage actions consolidation from ORM reviews across regions
Lead coordination of global risk assessments and QAQC processes with regional teams, identifying consolidation opportunities through standardization of RCSA methodologies and harmonization of risk and control frameworks to ensure consistent global risk reporting and management practices
Provide independent 2nd line ORM oversight and challenge across critical operational domains including payments processing and settlement failures, KYC/AML compliance and client onboarding, margin calculations and collateral management, cash prime brokerage operations and client money segregation, and trade capture with transaction reporting accuracy
Challenge 1st line control framework through adequacy assessment and challenge from 2nd line perspective and perform independent risk reviews, targeted assessments, QAQC, and deep dives across operational domains
Represent Powai in global ORM forums, contributing to strategic discussions on emerging risks and framework evolution
Present key ORM risks, KRI trends, and control testing updates to ORM Horizon Scanning Governance Forum discussions on emerging risks and strategic risk themes
Establish regular risk dialogue sessions with Global Stakeholders to ensure operational risk considerations are integrated into strategic planning/RCSA
Conduct risk assessments for new business initiatives, AI implementations, technology transformations, and business change management initiatives, developing cross-regional risk maps with focus on emerging AI risks, automation risks, and digital transformation operational risks
Partner with global functions to provide advisory solutions from 2nd line ORM perspective, perform QA/QC to identify inconsistencies in global risk governance framework implementation, and track actions and facilitate review outcomes with global teams
Participate in global projects based on emerging risks in settlements, KYC, client services, and cash prime operations
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key internal stakeholders across all business lines, ensuring ORM is embedded in business decision-making processes
Collaborate with Global Central ORM teams to ensure seamless convergence and alignment of operational risk management systems, tooling, and dashboarding platforms, while establishing robust feedback loops to enhance system effectiveness and drive continuous improvement across regional implementations
Create executive dashboards that translate complex operational risk data into clear, actionable business intelligence
