Department overview:
Within Nomura’s Risk Management, Model Risk Management is responsible for the execution and maintenance of the Firm’s Model Risk management framework. The team takes a Global approach, with all members equally contributing to projects. The team has a presence in Tokyo, London, Powai, Singapore, Hong Kong, and New York.
Model Risk Management comprises Model Validation Teams and the Model Governance Team.
The Model Governance Team is responsible for the Model Risk Framework, Model Risk Inventory and Reporting. It oversees the technology supporting the function, development and distribution of risk and performance indicators, regulatory communications, cross-functional initiatives, development of policies and procedures, and reporting.
Model Validation Teams validate the integrity and comprehensiveness of Risk, Valuation, Algorithmic Trading, and Finance Models.
Key objectives critical to success:
- Support with Model Risk training module development and roll out across all regions
- Close alignment and support with EMEA Risk COO on implementing SMF SoR changes / Board Training and awareness sessions
- In coordination with Model Risk SME development of Model Risk MI enhancements and reporting to regional and global risk committees
- Supporting with development of 1st line policies and procedures (as required)
- Helping to establish accountable owners in each function with a supporting operating model
- Prepare materials for various for a such as Model Risk Governance committee(s)
- On-hand support to provide 1st line with responses to questions concerning Model Risk framework enhancements and expectations
- Provide comms support and ad-hoc training in relation to NORMA / Model inventory enhancements
- Definition and roll out of model risk guidance in relation to (1) model performance monitoring; (2) model adjustments (pre and post); amongst other items
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
Essential
- Experience with and excellent writing skills, and slide creation skills would be a must (essential)
- Experience in designing and producing training material, or guidance documents for senior stakeholders up to board level (essential)
- Ability to work independently, with little guidance, whilst absorbing new material at fast pace
- Ability to manipulate data to convert into charts and presentations
Desirable
- Exposure to model validation activities eg testing experience (not mandatory but desirable)
- Ideally someone who has worked in model risk before, but would also consider someone who has worked in another risk type on change programs
- Ideally someone with exposure to audit / regulatory change work
