Nomura Services India, (Powai) supports Nomura’s businesses around the world. Powai’ s world class capabilities in trading support, research, information technology, financial control, operations, risk management and legal support have played a key role in facilitating Nomura’s global operations and are an integral part of Nomura’s global expansion plans. The Powai operation is a critical part of the platform to support the growth of Nomura’s global business.

 

Trade Support team ensures all trades placed by the front office are correctly processed in the market and internal systems reflect correct trade information.

 

The team handles all trades executed out of Nomura Asset Management’s global offices across the following asset classes: Equities; Fixed Income; Money Markets; Exchange Traded Futures, OTC Derivatives; FX and NDFs. The team also supports our global offices with trade related queries. The candidate will also be expected to demonstrate or develop relevant process/system knowledge, along with an appreciation of customer requirements and awareness of agreed service levels. Strong time management and personal organisation is critical.  The individual will be highly client focused, with strong communication skills.

Working in a fast-paced environment, the successful candidate will have a variety of tasks to complete, which includes trade confirmations, and trade settlement queries.

 

The ideal candidate would be a self-motivated team player with minimum of 2-3 years experience in a similar role.

 

The candidate must be able to priortise individual and team work loads and deliver high quality, accurate work to meet standards required by internal and external parties.

Trade Support team duties and responsibilities:

  • Trade confirmation and instruction processing for all AEJ markets for equity and Fixed Income securities.  Involves following up with multiple external brokers and liaising with the NAM Trading desk as well as Transaction Management Team, to ensure trades are allocated and confirmed either automatically via CTM or manual confirmation. There is a business requirement to receive information and book trades before COB on trade date before market cut off times.

 

After the confirmation is complete, the team will transmit the settlement instructions via SWIFT. At that time, it is essential to send the information accurately using the correct SSI (Broker’s SSI). Therefore, it may be necessary to check with broker confirmations or past instruction records manually as needed.

 

  • Trade Settlement management for both Equity and Fixed Income securities. 

 

  • Monitoring of pending and failed trade reports received from both custodians and brokers.

 

  • Investigating discrepancies and liaising with relevant parties to final resolution/settlement.
  • Monitoring group email box to ensure queries are actioned by the team according to priority and ensuring that there are no outstanding items at COB.

 

  • Ensuring existing procedures are kept up to date with changing processes.

 

Key Skills:

  • Attention to detail essential.
  • Experience on AEJ markets would be additional advantage.
  • Knowledge of SWIFT and DTCC CTM, ALERT required, Bloomberg beneficial.
  • Understanding of the trade lifecycles for the following products: for equities, fixed income.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with internal counterparties (e.g., portfolio managers, trading desk, client services, other Nomura offices), as well as external bodies (brokers, trust banks and custodians).
  • Ability to assess different levels of risk, in order to know what must be prioritised.
  • Excellent time management skills essential to ensure timely delivery of scheduled standard tasks. This includes understanding and completing requirements for peak periods (e.g. receiving confirmations by COB, and increased volumes for monthly portfolio rebalancing). However, an ability to remain flexible to meet changing business priorities is also needed.
  • Ability to get counterparties to deliver with the tenacity to follow up on outstanding actions.
  • Ability to quickly understand new systems, both in-house and market-supplied providers.
  • It is necessary to have task management skills to understand and execute the different processing methods and deadlines related to the internal system structure, the complex attributes of each account, and the product/account attributes.
