About the Role
We are looking for dynamic and detail-oriented individuals to join our Product Control team at the Analyst level. The team plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting by providing timely and accurate daily P&L reporting, balance sheet substantiation and supporting Front Office with strategic business decision-making.
The incumbent will gain exposure across multiple asset classes including Equities, Fixed Income, FX, Credit and Derivatives (Listed and OTC). This role is an excellent platform to develop a deep understanding of financial products, valuation techniques, risk management principles, and regulatory frameworks in a global investment banking environment.
Key Responsibilities
Daily P&L and Risk Reporting
- Review of daily P&L reports for assigned trading desks.
- Analyze P&L drivers including new deals, market movements, and hedging activities.
- Reconcile trader-reported risk P&L with independently calculated P&L.
- Explain P&L variances through interaction with trading desks, risk division and operations teams.
Balance Sheet Substantiation
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of trading-related balance sheet accounts.
- Perform daily and monthly reconciliations with Front Office systems and General Ledger.
- Review and challenge valuations, funding adjustments, and reserves.
Valuation Control
- Analysis of pricing inputs for various products
- Work closely with Valuation Control and Market Risk teams on fair value hierarchy classifications and reserving methodologies.
Month-End and Quarter-End Responsibilities
- Assist in month-end close, including revenue recognition, adjustment bookings and disclosures
- Prepare detailed commentary on P&L and balance sheet movements for senior Finance and Business stakeholders
- Support external audit and regulatory reporting requirements
Control and Governance
- Maintain a strong control environment ensuring compliance with firm policies, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
- Proactively identify control gaps, propose solutions, and drive remediation efforts.
Process Optimization and Automation
- Streamline existing reporting processes through automation (using Power Query, VBA, Python, or similar tools).
- Participate in global finance transformation initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, data quality, and analytics capability.
Work Experience:
- 0–4 years of relevant experience in Product Control, Middle Office, Financial Control, or Risk Management at a leading investment bank or Big 4 firm.
- Exposure to trading businesses across Equities, Fixed Income, FX and Derivatives preferred.
- Educational Background: Professional certifications - CA, CFA
Technical Skills:
- Good understanding of the Financial Markets as they relate to the Products under their control Strong analytical skills and detail oriented
- Broad understanding of the product types traded by the desk and any valuation issues thereof
- Ability to understand the booking structure for complex trades and raise relevant issues to Product Control management
- Good understanding of the P&L production and reporting methodology for the P&L’s
- Good understanding of the relationship between Valuations and P&L teams within the bank and the various areas of interaction required
- Good understand of the valuation of all products under their control
- Strong knowledge of key Financial Reporting
- Basic understanding of accounting principles
- Broad overview of Product Control’s interaction with Regulatory Reporting
- Strong MS Excel skills
- Experience with automation / reporting tools (e.g., SQL, Power BI, Power Query) is a strong plus.
