Powai Finance is an integral part of the CFO division and plays a key role in various Finance functions ranging from Treasury, Global Middle Office, Financial Control & Regulatory Reporting, Global Infrastructure, Cost Analytics and MI. Located strategically to cater to multiple time zones, Powai Finance ensures internal and regulatory deliverables across all regions are supported.

 

Business Unit Overview (If Applicable):

CMA team in Mumbai is an extension of the Global CMA team providing Analytical and Quantitative Support to the onshore teams. Team caters to Monthly book closure as well as MIS requirements of senior management across Nomura Group (Retail, Wholesale, Corporate divisions) and regions (Japan, AeJ, EMEA and US). Team is responsible for monthly and quarterly reporting of Revenues, Expenses and other financial resources.

Within CMA, Cost Control team caters to month end close and MIS requirements and provides Cost analytics to senior management of Nomura Group division across all regions. The team is comprised of dedicated regional groups based in Powai supporting Global stakeholders in Europe, Asia-Ex, Japan and US.

 Role & Responsibilities:

  • Cost Control - Lead and manage month end close and cost allocation process as per accounting principles as well as company policies and guidelines.
  • Review and analyse expenses to identify any potential error or inaccuracies and drive corrections and adjustments.
  • Report key financials and provide insights for Technology division costs at a Global level.
  • Review and strengthen existing control and governance within the processes including balance sheet and Ledger reconciliations, and adequate/auditable substantiations are provided for balances.
  • Manage Cost Centre and Nominal Structure/hierarchy changes and maintenance as per business need and requests
  • Budgeting / Forecasting – Play a key role in the rolling forecast process and annual budgeting exercise, with a focus on overall cost submissions
  • Business Partnering - Perform analyses/scenario-based modelling to support the business/senior management with direct and indirect cost analyses, including analysis of headcount and partner with Strategy teams to provide analysis for business reviews and expense deep dives
  • Prepare materials to support analysis and discussion with the business/senior management
  • Projects / Re-engineering / Automation - Assist in all innovation, automation and technology enablement initiatives across Finance.  Participate in Firm’s Finance Transformation to automated digital solutions using Power BI, Alteryx or Python
  • Identify areas of current production and increase efficiency and automation where necessary
  • Manage stakeholders’ relationship by fulfilling their expectations, ad-hoc tasks which can range from a quick request for numbers to month long scenario analysis projects
  • Mentor team member/s to drive efficiency while ensuring accuracy and adherence to timelines
