Department overview 

The Precious Metal Operations team sits within the wider Global Operations department as a newly founded team designed to support the FX&EM business expansion into Precious Metals. Positioned within the Shared Services Operations function, which is responsible for all settlement and confirmation activity across asset classes, as well as cash management, asset servicing and network management. The Precious Metals team coordinated closely with all other Global Operations teams, including Middle Office, to ensure seamless operational integration.  

 

Role description

This position is instrumental in establishing Nomura's Precious Metals Operations capability and will be critical to the successful launch and growth of the broader precious metals business initiative.

Initial Phase Responsibilities:

  • Lead the establishment and development of the Precious Metals Operations team
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure systems architecture and functionality align with operational requirements
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for key internal stakeholders
  • Design and implement robust processes and controls in accordance with industry best practices
  • Establish effective working relationships with the India-based Settlement team

Expansion Phase Responsibilities: As the business evolves to include physical settlement capabilities, the role will encompass:

  • Ensuring appropriate external infrastructure and partnerships are established
  • Leveraging existing industry networks to optimize operational efficiency
  • Maintaining full compliance with local regulatory requirements across all jurisdictions

Ongoing Operational Leadership: Upon full establishment, this role will serve as the primary business liaison for Precious Metals Operations, facilitating communication between trading desks and operational teams. Core responsibilities will include:

  • Funding management and liquidity coordination
  • Oversight and governance of India settlement operations
  • Management of physical logistics and delivery processes

 

 

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required

Essential Experience

  • Experience in Financial Services with substantial exposure to precious metals operations
  • Comprehensive knowledge of precious metals markets, products, and settlement conventions

Technical Competencies

  • Proven experience with settlement systems and processes, including SWIFT messaging protocols
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and database management capabilities
  • Thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks governing precious metals trading and settlement

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including ability to engage with senior management
