Department Overview
Overview:
This role sits within a specialist team of four risk managers and reports directly to the EMEA Head of Operations Risk & Control. The successful candidate will play a key part in strengthening the control environment across the Operations Division.
Role Description
- Governance & Oversight
- Provide governance and oversight across core Operations functions.
- Maintain and enhance the risk reporting and governance framework, including the design and operation of key risk and control forums.
- Independently monitor relevant risk and control metrics and present insights to senior stakeholders.
- Risk Management
- Own and maintain Operations’ risk registers, ensuring timely follow‑up and closure of outstanding actions.
- Oversee loss incident reporting, partnering with Operations teams to ensure corrective actions prevent recurrence.
- Provide robust, independent challenge on the remediation of issues and audit findings.
- Framework Development & Innovation
- Support the enhancement of the existing risk framework and contribute to the development of next‑generation risk tools, including a new Key Risk Indicator dashboard.
- Lead or support thematic reviews and ensure lessons learned are translated into improvements across all Operations teams.
- Emerging Risk & Escalation
Identify, assess, and escalate emerging risks to Operations management in a timely and considered manner.
- Cross‑Functional Engagement
- Work closely with global Risk & Control teams to support the wider legal entity governance framework.
- Partner with key stakeholders across the bank—Front Office, Operational Risk, Product Control, and Compliance.
- Coordinate Operations’ assessment of new product initiatives and process changes
The primary objective of this role is to act as a trusted partner to Operations line teams—providing robust challenge, proactive support, and structured risk insight to maintain and continually strengthen the control environment across EMEA Operations
Key objectives critical to success:
The high-profile priorities of the team comprise:
- Partnering with line teams to promoting a strong, embedded risk and control culture.
- Performing risk analysis and monitoring, including oversight of the Risk & Control Self-Assessment process in Operations, and the development and enhancement of risk metrics.
- Issue management, including monitoring Operations risk events, providing appropriate challenge in the determination of required mitigating actions, monitoring actions through to completion.

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
- Experience Operations Banking professional, ideally with experience managing Operations line teams.
- Strong understanding of Operations Risk consents and good control design
- Ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously.
- Analytical skills and the ability to turn data into information.
- Excellent communication skills, tenacity, and confidence to challenge
- Good knowledge of excel, including pivots, function and formulas.
- Detailed knowledge of front to back investment bank products and booking flows and the ability to challenge internal stakeholders.
- Ability to build and understand process flows in order to identify and evaluate controls
