Department overview:

Nomura’s investment banking division (“IBD”) provides advisory, capital-raising and risk management solutions to corporations, financial institutions, governments and public-sector organizations around the world. Our global teams act as geographic, product and industry specialists. 

 

The Debt Capital Markets (“DCM”) group sits within IBD EMEA Client Financing Solution (CFS) business. Its role is to provide our clients with advice on and execution of debt and capital raising transactions in the global markets. In Europe, the group’s client focus is on the Financial Institutions (“FIG”), Sovereign, Supranational, Agency (“SSA”) and Corporate sectors.

 

Key elements of the role:

  • Work alongside the MD in charge of France / Belgium DCM coverage.  Client focus is on FIG, SSA and some Corporate clients in France and on FIG/Regional public sector clients in Belgium and Luxembourg

  • Client-facing role with early client responsibility

  • Monitor opportunities across Nomura’s core currencies of expertise: JPY, AUD, GBP, EUR, USD and core product areas including: public debt issues; MTN/Private Placements; Capital Solutions, Asset and Liability Management, Ratings Advisory; and Sustainability

  • Assist in client coverage, transaction marketing and execution

  • Preparation of market updates and client presentations

  • Pricing, structuring and execution of debt and hybrid capital transactions.

  • Thorough knowledge of regulatory capital framework for European banks

  • Detailed credit analysis including Due Diligence and internal credit approval process

  • Support around the syndication of executed transactions (e.g. preparation of information memorandum, term sheets and bank presentations, liaising with client & other syndicate banks).

  • Benchmarking, comparables and analysis of bank financial information

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

  • French native speaker and fluent in English

  • Keen interest in financial markets as well as general awareness of geopolitics, world affairs

  • Experience in Debt Capital Markets or related investment banking, fixed income business

  • Experience in managing internal transaction approval processes

  • Awareness of the current ESG themes

  • Strong communication (both spoken and written) and inter-personal skills – ability to interact confidently with colleagues and clients

  • Ability to multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, including familiarity with financial modelling.  Knowledge of interest rate and cross-currency swaps is helpful.

  • Experienced in Excel, PowerPoint, Bloomberg
