Department Overview:

Nomura's Global Markets Division handles client transactions for financial institutions, corporates, governments and investment funds around the world. We act as market makers, trading in fixed income and equity securities, including currencies, interest rates and credit in cash, derivatives and structured products. Key objectives critical to success:

 

  • You will work in a team of Strats who work directly with traders and salespeople as part of our Data and Analytics Strats or Desk-Aligned Strats team.
  • You will work alongside senior Strats as well as the trading and sales desks to develop ideas and productionise tools and analytics that create efficiencies, automate and provide new opportunities and benefit Nomura’s trading business.

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related discipline is required (e.g. Finance, Computer Science). A Master’s degree in a finance/IT focused discipline is an advantage (e.g. Financial Engineering, Computational Finance)
  • Experience in coding is required, with exposure to generative AI coding tools such as Claude Code. Experience coding in a broad set of languages or having strong experience in Python are an advantage. You will need to want to become a Python/AI domain expert.
  • Product knowledge is not a prerequisite, however it will be an advantage and the candidate must have the desire to learn.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in either a technology role or have a strong academic background in computer science and will bring additional engineering rigour to the role. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking for a role within front office that will leverage their experience building robust technology solutions.
  • Role will be part of the FO – with much trading / sales interaction but will also require liaising with other IT / quant groups around the Firm to ensure they deliver our requirements. Candidates should be comfortable working in this fast-paced and high pressure environment and have the requisite soft skills to excel.
