Department overview:
The Risk Management Department at Nomura is broadly organised according to the main risk classes; Credit Risk Management, Market Risk Management, Operational Risk Management and New Products/Business.
The Risk Management team works to provide a firm wide capital management framework, which takes into account the availability and cost of capital, its effective utilization within and across business lines and the overall capital adequacy of the firm. Risk Management's key activities include ensuring transparency and effectively managing market, credit, liquidity, concentration and tail risk within the risk appetite of the firm and monitoring the effectiveness of capital utilization through the use of limit structures, with an emphasis on stress testing and risk adjusted returns on capital efficiency measures.
As part of the substitutive global Book of Work covering both regulatory and incremental business change there is a requirement for a strong delivery focused business analyst to work across a number of initiatives on a global basis.
Job Description/Responsibilities:
This role will sit in the EMEA Financial Institutions and Regulated Funds Credit Team. It will ultimately report to the Head of EMEA Financial Institutions and Regulated Funds Credit Team.
The Credit Officer would be responsible for the coverage of a portfolio of Financial Institution counterparties.
- Primary responsibilities for this role would be:
- Credit Risk Analysis, both quantitative and qualitative, across Banks, Brokers, Insurers, and other Financial Institutions
- New client approvals, including setting credit appetite, limits and rating, performing due diligence calls/ visits, drafting/ negotiating credit terms for legal documentation
- Implementing and managing credit limits in accordance with risk appetite, including adherence to the Global Credit Limit Management Policy
- Analysing economic, market, regulatory, industry events/developments and assessing their impact on the portfolio. Reporting any relevant events to the EMEA Head of Financial Institutions and Reg. Funds and other relevant senior risk management
- Managing counterparty risk exposure, including transaction assessment and trade approval with a focus on Derivative and Securities Financing products. This includes liaising with front office personnel, reviewing and approving new transactions and agreeing on trading terms
- Ensuring adherence to Credit Risk limits, including Single Name limits, Country limits and counterparty specific limits, escalating breaches to relevant senior risk management when necessary
- Proactively identifying and monitoring exposure concentrations, identifying risk mitigating actions and escalating/updating to Risk senior management as appropriate
- Identifying, monitoring and escalating trade settlement fails and recommending appropriate risk management actions
- Analysing and interpreting the stress testing results and take actions as appropriate at counterparty, country and/or industry level
- Contributing to global risk change initiatives which includes global coordination across Risk and Business colleagues geared toward internal or external / regulatory driven enhancements
- Implementing team level initiatives
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
- Credit Risk experience covering Banks, Brokers, Insurers and other Financial Institutions
- Strong familiarity with financial statement analysis and credit risk metrics
- Sound understanding of OTC and SFT derivative products
- Understanding of legal documentation (ISDA /CSA, GMRA, GMSLA)
- Prior experience in dealing with Front Office stakeholders
- Comfortable interacting with senior management, communicating within Risk Management as well as the relevant business areas
- Ability to be a self-starter, working without supervision and managing multiple stakeholder expectations
