Department Overview
The Client Portfolio Management (CPM) team is a branch of the investment team within Nomura Asset Management (NAM). The CPM team is responsible for ensuring that the investment products of NAM are able to achieve commercial success, provided that performance is in line with expectations. As a result, CPMs are expected to maintain a high degree of knowledge about their relevant portfolios and markets, so that they can explain these products in detail to clients, prospects and internal stakeholders. They are also expected to understand the demands of the various client segments, so that products can be designed and positioned correctly for those segments.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build internal knowledge of the Fixed Income products for which NAM UK is the investment manager or key regional support location.
- Build internal knowledge of industry trends, demand trends that influence popularity of NAM products or make certain features more/less attractive.
- Share and promote that knowledge to Distribution Team, clients, prospects and provide support to improve understanding.
- Manage the two other members of the team (currently focussed on Japanese Equity products).
- Enable the investment team to focus on investing:
o Take on reporting tasks that would otherwise fall to them.
o Identify errors in data from Performance and Risk teams.
o Ensure product design fits the capability and capacity of the investment team.
o Advocate change where product demand does not fit the capability or capacity.
o Advocate operational or strategy improvements that would benefit products.
o Prevent changes that would inconvenience or alienate clients. - Support the distribution team:
o Educate sales colleagues about market events.
o Continuously educate sales colleagues about key selling points and any changes to them.
o Check and maintain marketing materials.
o Check and maintain databases / websites that publish information about our products.
o Improve quality and focus of client/prospect materials.
o Ensure accuracy in all client/prospect materials.
o Suggest new materials or projects that could aid sales.
o Pursue media contacts to raise the products’ and NAM’s profile. - Build the business case to recommend new investment products.
- Advocate the closure of products where appropriate, be that due to capacity limits or lack of demand.
- Identify appropriate uses of seed capital and advocate its return when appropriate.
Skills & Experience:
- University degree in a numerate subject.
- Previous experience in a similar role.
- Fixed Income knowledge is essential.
- Basic knowledge of investment markets, with a desire to develop this over time to expert level.
- Attention to detail is essential with excellent organisation ability.
- Ability to prioritise tasks effectively.
- Ability to communicate with and present to senior stakeholders both within and external to the organisation will be developed over time.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office software. Some programming skills preferable.
- Japanese language ability is desirable, but not mandatory.
