Department overview


The Global Internal Audit department is a key part of Nomura’s corporate governance and its primary objective is to review the firm's control environment and report any weaknesses identified to the Audit Committees and senior management.


The EMEA Internal Audit department comprising of Business, Risk and IT audit specialists is led by the Global Head of Internal Audit for Wholesale located in London.. 


NFPE Internal Audit team is balanced mix of senior and junior employees who is based in Frankfurt and in other branch locations of NFPE and is led by NFPE Head of Internal Audit.


Role description

 

Reporting regionally to the Head of NFPE Audit (Frankfurt), the Internal Audit Vice President will be responsible for assisting Head of NFPE Audit to build strong third line of defence and manging the team of junior employees. 
The role will involve executing and working with other colleagues to perform, the planning, walkthrough (design and implementation), fieldwork, and reporting of all audits per the approved Audit Plan.


Audit portfolio covered will include wide spectrum of areas including Trading, Compliance, Risk Management, Regulatory Reporting, Outsourcing and Information Technology. 


The successful candidate will collaborate with audit colleagues with various expertise (Global Markets, Risk Management, Finance and other Corporate functions) to develop broad insightful perspectives on audits if first and second lines of defence. This role demands the ability to develop trusted relationships with key senior stakeholders, such as senior management in the Business and Corporate functions, External Audit and Regulators, and the various Boards and Non-Executive Directors. 
 

•    Perform and manage all stages of audits including planning, testing and reporting over different audits regionally and globally, as required
•    Understand key risks and controls in area being audited via discussions with management, walkthroughs, etc.
•    Develop and plan effective audit approach to address identified risks in the most effective way using data analytics and expertise from global Internal Audit SMEs
•    Executing test work of selected controls in effective manner under consideration Nomura Internal Audit methodology requirements
•    Drafting audit report and work with stakeholders to agree findings, corrective actions, and due dates
•    Ensure all audit work is executed in accordance with Departmental Audit Methodology and documentation standards. Ensure that each audit is completed within budget (time and effort). 
•    Be responsible for effective follow up and verifying raised in reports are closed. 
•    Provide leadership and technical expertise in assessing the firm’s Front Office and Back Office processes to ensure compliance with German and European regulatory requirements.
•    Performance of the annual Risk Assessment of auditable entities and preparation risk-based audit plan 
•    Assisting Head of Internal audit in preparing managerial reporting for the Senior Management
•    Represent Internal Audit on local committees and governance forums
•    To work with colleagues from global internal audit team to contribute further development of the audit methodology and audit practice.
•    Remain current on any changes to Nomura’s risk profile through continuous monitoring and establishing close contact with key risk stakeholders. This includes a quarterly formal report that opines on (1) Changes to the Audit Universe; (2) Changes to underlying risk assessments, and; (3) Changes to the Audit Plan.
•    Carry out special projects, ad hoc investigations and advisory work, keeping the Regional and Global Portfolio Directors up to date on all key findings and emerging issues. 
•    The role also requires driving data analytics where necessary to enhance audit effectiveness and efficiency, working closely with the department’s Data Analytics Subject Matter Experts.  

 

Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:

Being a key member of NFPE Internal Audit function, the candidate should have the following skills and qualifications at the minimum:

 

•    A minimum of five years of experience in internal or external auditing  
•    Expert level of knowledge in auditing process and methodology
•    Very good level knowledge of German regulatory requirements especially MaRisk Circular, German Securities Trading Act and European regulation especially MiFiD II / MiFiR requirements
•    Detailed understanding of control standards, best practice frameworks and a proven ability to promptly identify the root causes and materiality of control issues.
•    Strong leadership, management and team building skills and an ability to work across teams.
•    Ability to lead, project manage and execute multiple tasks.
•    A demonstrated ability to produce quality work
•    Confident manner and well-developed communication (both verbal and written), influencing, interpersonal and project management skills
•    Ability to take on larger roles when needed.
•    Ability to effectively discuss control issues with senior auditees.
•    Ability to contribute to the development of the risk based audit plan under the audit methodology to assess the effectiveness of Nomura’s Operational Management function.
•    Ability to contribute to the regional audit plan and assist auditors in other regions as needed
•    Experienced in forging internal relationships to drive change
•    Possesses strong understanding of multi-jurisdictional regulatory environment and trends
•    Skills in Data Mining and Data Analytics is preferable
