Department overview:

Asia Valuations Group, within Global Middle Office, is an independent function within Finance focusing on validating fair value measurement of products that are designated to be FVO (Fair Value Option), as per Accounting Standard. The team focuses on mathematical and quantitative aspects of derivatives valuations, fundamental of financing and accounting, as well as communication with a wide array of stakeholders from Business, Risk, Accounting Policy, Financial Control, and other departments.

 

Role description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Valuations Specialist with expertise in Independent Price Verification (IPV) to join our team. The Valuations Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of valuations for financial instruments within our organization. The primary focus of this role will be the independent assessment and verification of prices in the asset class assigned. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial markets, valuation methodologies, and risk management frameworks.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Review and challenge collateral prices upon request. This could include illiquid and unobservable bonds, suspended stock or notes issued by other counterparty.
  • Devise policy, procedure or protocol for efficient collateral valuations review, both at regional and global levels.
  • Challenge accuracy of data source and review asset prices based on comparable in different asset classes 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Financing Risk, Credit Risk, Collateral Management and Operations.
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and enhancements to strengthen the valuation framework and risk management practices. 
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and documentation on valuation assessments, highlighting findings and recommendations for senior management and regulatory purposes. 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of valuation policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. 

 

Skills, experience, qualifications, and knowledge required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/economics from an accredited University 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in valuations within a financial institution with a focus on independent price verification 
  • Experience in credit market, collateral valuation, discounted cash flow analysis, and risk management principles 
  • Experience with regulatory frameworks and industry guidelines (e.g., HKMA, SFC). 
  • Proficiency in using valuation tools and software, as well as advanced Excel skills. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • Proven ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • High ethical standards and the ability to maintain confidentiality and objectivity in valuation assessments 
  • Professional qualification e.g., CFA, FRM
