Role description:
The Operation Vice President role within Market Operations focuses on supporting cash equities and ensuring the timely settlement of trades in the Asia-Pacific markets. The primary objective of this position is to ensure accurate processing of the end-to-end settlement process for cash equity transactions in accordance with regulatory guidelines and delivering top-tier customer service.
The role will be responsible to resolve all reconciliation exceptions identified, address escalations relating to settlement processing, perform data analysis and reporting to demonstrate effective risk management and issue resolution. This ensures the smooth operation of the daily settlement processes.
This role operates in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and the candidate will need to adapt to the evolving needs of both internal and external clients. Teamwork is a vital component of this role, to build and nurture strong relationships both within the team and with other internal Nomura teams. The candidate will need to have extensive knowledge of the cash equities business and market knowledge. The candidate is expected to monitor and evaluate processes and data, identify and implement policies to drive process improvements and efficiency throughout the team and the organization.
Reconciliation & Controls
Daily bank reconciliation
Internal control account reconciliation
Monthly reconciliation with broker rebates
Stock borrowing and lending reconciliation
Settlement functions
Responsible for cash equities trade settlements in APAC markets and manage a team of 8 staff
Identify, investigate and resolve settlement discrepancies to ensure all trade details are accurately captured
Manage the settlement risks effectively, including failed trades, counterparty exposure and mark-to-market exposure.
Manage the stock borrowing & lending (SBL) process, and arrange settlement of SBL, returns, collateral, fees and rebates with the SBL counterparty
Collaborate with various departments and individuals within the organization to provide support on matters related to reconciliations, payments, settlements and reporting
Responsible for settlement of fees, penalties, proxy fees and intercompany fees related to trade settlement
Involve in ad-hoc project when necessary
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
Bachelor degree or equivalent and knowledge of Cash equities markets
Minimum of 8 years in financial services industry preferred in Sell side operations.
Good team player, proactive and able to adapt quickly.
Highly committed, self-motivated and able to meet deadlines
Strong communication skills, fluency in English is required.
High regard for attention to detail, accuracy and quality
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook (VBA or programming knowledge is a plus)
Proficiency in settlement or payment platforms and transaction flows
Proven leadership in managing teams and driving operational improvements
