This is a Team Lead role in Credit Risk Management (CRM) Department, managing the Hedge Fund (HF) Credit Risk team across Hong Kong, Singapore and Mumbai (India) . The team manages credit exposure to Hedge Fund (HF) counterparties located in Asia-ex Japan (AEJ). Strong knowledge of hedge fund product trades including Prime Brokerage, Securities Financing Transactions (SFT) and OTC derivative trades is essential, and proven experience in stakeholders negotiations. The role carries delegated credit approval authority and reports functionally to Global Head of Hedge Fund and regionally to AEJ Regional Head of Credit.
Role Description:
• Maintain close communication with HF team leads globally and monitor international risk developments
• Review and approve credit memos prepared by team analysts, providing guidance on credit analysis methodology and approving credit ratings and limits
• Collaborate with Front Office Risk and other risk functions to understand stress loss scenarios and recommend appropriate credit actions when risk appetite thresholds are exceeded
• Conduct Due Diligence visits and calls with HF clients to gather essential credit information for comprehensive analysis
• Analyze hedge fund trading strategies, risk management frameworks, performance metrics, operational controls and governance structures to produce high-quality credit assessments
• Define credit terms and covenants for legal documentation including Prime Brokerage agreements, ISDA/CSA, and GMRA
• Present comprehensive AEJ HF portfolio risk summaries at global HF risk review calls and regional/global risk committees
• Oversee daily trade approvals in coordination with other risk teams and establish appropriate margining requirements
• Conduct monthly reviews of NAV and performance data for all AEJ Hedge Funds, recommending credit actions for funds showing deteriorating metrics
• Review credit limit breach investigation by team, determine the proposed action and escalate as per Credit Risk Policies.
Skills, experience, qualifications, and knowledge required:
• 12+ years of experience as a credit analyst covering Hedge Funds or alternative investment funds, or as a Credit Quant in an investment bank
• Strong quantitative skills with ability to interpret complex risk metrics (Independent Amount IA calculation methodologies, VaR, stressed exposure, etc.) for informed credit decision-making
• Comprehensive understanding of portfolio trade risks
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field; advanced degree preferred
• Proven team management experience with ability to develop and mentor analysts
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with Sales teams and external clients
