Role description:


We are seeking a passionate, creative, and strategic communications leader to serve as Head of AEJ (Asia ex Japan) Regional Corporate Communications. This senior role is critical in shaping and driving an innovative regional communications strategy that reinforces our brand, supports business growth, and manages reputation in a complex and dynamic environment. The successful candidate will lead and inspire the AEJ communications function, provide trusted and strategic counsel to senior leadership, proactively manage media and stakeholder relationships, and champion inventive, solutions-oriented communication practices.

This role requires close collaboration with other regional heads and communications teams globally to ensure alignment and consistency of message, while reporting directly to the Head of Group Corporate Communications in Tokyo. The position also holds secondary reporting lines to regional management, ensuring integration of business priorities and local market dynamics within communications strategies. The ideal candidate will anticipate and navigate evolving business challenges and opportunities with agility and strategic insight.

Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership of AEJ Communications

  • Define and execute a forward-looking, integrated regional corporate communications strategy aligned with our global vision and tailored for diverse AEJ markets.
  • Lead and mentor the AEJ communications team with passion, fostering creativity and innovation to craft impactful communications that advance corporate objectives, strengthen market positioning, and build stakeholder trust.
  • Manage regional communications budgets and resources effectively to maximize impact and efficiency, ensuring optimal allocation aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Act as a strategic thought leader who anticipates future trends and proactively develops solutions to emerging issues, ensuring communications serve as a business enabler.
  • Maintain high sensitivity to developments within both business and corporate areas of the firm, proactively identifying opportunities where communications can contribute to productivity, effectiveness, operational efficiencies or higher employee engagement.
  • Provide regional oversight for the development, activation, and management of the Nomura brand in close coordination with the Global Brand and Marketing teams, ensuring aligned brand messaging and standards across AEJ markets.
  • Lead regional communications initiatives tied to social impact and corporate responsibility, reinforcing Nomura’s commitment to sustainable and ethical business practices.

  • Build positive and trusted relationships with senior executives and business leaders.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor during incidents, issues, and crises, delivering calm, clear, and proactive communications responses that mitigate risk and uphold our reputation.
  • Proactively inform Group Corporate Communications and regional counterparts of reputational risks and developments to enable unified, strategic responses.

Media Relations and Reputation Management

  • Cultivate and maintain strong, credible relationships with key media, influencers, and opinion leaders across the AEJ region.
  • Drive a proactive and creative media engagement program that showcases our leadership, innovations, and market insights.
  • Be confident and assertive in media relations when necessary to protect our interests, correcting inaccuracies and reinforcing the firm’s narrative firmly yet professionally.

Internal and Stakeholder Communications

  • Design and implement innovative internal communications that engage and align employees across varied cultures and markets with our mission and strategic goals.
  • Partner closely with HR, business units, and global teams to deliver solution-driven communications supporting transformation, culture-building, and talent retention.
  • Leverage data and feedback to continuously refine communication approaches, measuring impact and driving improvements.

Innovation, Proactivity, and Solutions Orientation

  • Embrace and integrate cutting-edge communications tools, digital platforms, and methodologies to enhance messaging effectiveness and reach.

  • Cultural agility and multilingual abilities are desirable.
  • Understanding of the financial industry is an advantage but not required for a quick learner committed to rapidly acquiring relevant knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive corporate communications experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role in the AEJ region or comparable multicultural contexts.
  • Proven success in leading strategic, creative, multi-market communications programs that drive business growth and corporate reputation.
  • Experience working collaboratively in matrixed organizations, influencing across functions and geographies.
