Department Overview:
The Finance Transformation Department serves as a strategic center of excellence within the COO office, dedicated to modernizing Nomura's financial infrastructure and eliminating operational inefficiencies across the global finance organization. The department leads critical initiatives to establish single sources of truth, automate manual processes, and create scalable data governance frameworks that support accurate, timely financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Data & System Transformation Lead to lead a strategic initiative addressing critical gaps in our finance systems architecture, data governance, and workflow efficiency. This is a high-impact role that will directly support the Chief Financial Officer in modernizing our financial control environment and eliminating manual, error-prone adjustments across multiple finance teams.
The successful candidate will conduct a comprehensive assessment of our current finance systems landscape, identify root causes of redundant workflows and data quality issues, and design scalable solutions that enable seamless data flow from upstream systems through product control, treasury, financial control, and regulatory reporting functions.
The successful candidate will also be responsible for leading the Data Transformation and Governance strategy for AEJ Finance and engage with global teams to drive implementation of multi-year transformation Finance projects related to single ledger, trade front-to-back data transformation etc.
Role Description:
Discovery & Assessment Phase
- Conduct comprehensive current-state assessment of all finance systems including data flows, system integrations, and manual adjustment processes across product control, treasury, financial control, and regulatory reporting teams
- Document existing pain points, system limitations, design flaws, and data quality issues affecting financial operations and reporting accuracy
- Map data lineage from source systems to final reporting outputs, identifying data silos, redundancies, and integration gaps
- Interview stakeholders across multiple finance teams to understand business requirements, workflow dependencies, and critical success factors
- Quantify the impact of manual adjustments on operational efficiency, cost, and risk exposure
Solution Design & Roadmap Development
- Design comprehensive solutions addressing identified gaps, prioritizing elimination of manual adjustments through process optimization and system enhancements
- Develop business cases with clear ROI, implementation timelines, and resource requirements for proposed solutions
- Create a phased implementation roadmap that balances quick wins with long-term strategic improvements
- Establish data governance framework defining roles, responsibilities, and controls for data management across finance functions and align with global functional initiatives
- Design metrics and KPIs to measure success of implemented solutions
Implementation Support & Change Management
- Partner with IT/systems teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and system configurations
- Lead working groups with cross-functional teams to design and validate process improvements
- Develop training materials and change management strategies to support team adoption of new processes and systems
- Monitor implementation progress, identify risks, and recommend corrective actions
- Establish feedback mechanisms for continuous improvement post-implementation
Ongoing Optimization
- Document all processes, system configurations, and data governance policies
- Establish performance monitoring and reporting on system usage and data quality
- Recommend system upgrades and enhancements based on evolving business needs
- Serve as subject matter expert on finance systems capabilities and limitations
Skills, experience, qualifications, and knowledge required:
Experience
- 12+ years of experience in business analysis, financial systems, or process improvement roles, with at least 5 years in financial services, or corporate finance environments, preferably with a consulting background
- Experience in solution design and technical delivery with at least 3 years leading data transformations (e.g. integration, database, business logic, infrastructure, and non-functional considerations)
- Demonstrated experience with finance systems integration, data governance, and establishing single sources of truth for financial data
- Background supporting finance functions including general ledger, consolidation, regulatory reporting, treasury operations, and product control
- Success leading cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders in matrix organizations
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong understanding of financial data flows, general ledger structures, chart of accounts design, and inter-company reconciliations
- Experience with data models, ETL processes, and data warehouse concepts
- Knowledge of finance systems architecture and integration patterns (e.g., APIs, middleware, ETL tools)
- Familiarity with process mapping and documentation tools (Visio, or similar)
Finance & Regulatory Knowledge
- Strong understanding of financial control frameworks and internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR)
- Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements (local and international) and reporting system constraints
- Understanding of investment banking operations, including product control workflows, treasury functions, and revenue recognition complexities
- Familiarity with financial consolidation and inter-company elimination processes
