Job Title:  Credit Product Controller

Department overview:
Nomura's Global Middle Office "GMO" provides trade support and also acts as a controller for the trading desk. The Credit businesses supported by the function include Primary Syndication, Flow Credit Trading, Repo Trading and Structured Credit. GMO’s primary responsibility as a control function is ensuring accuracy and completeness of P&L and Balance Sheet reporting. The function also provides insight to management by working closely with traders to understand their trading strategies and risks. 


Role description:
The candidate will act as the face-off between the Trading desk and other departments as well as drive strategic change, identify and remediate control risks, and ensure compliance with audit and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Analysis, explanation and validation of P&L and Balance Sheet drivers according to positions, risk, market moves, new trades and other influences. 
  • Facilitate periodic P&L and Balance sheet commentaries to senior management and MI teams.
  • Represent finance in an advisory role on new transactions and new products by assessing them on resource and return metrics, infrastructure capabilities and operational support.
  • Work closely with functions in Finance such as Accounting policy, Valuations, Financial and Resource controllers, Treasury etc on structured transactions with particular focus on day 1 revenue recognition and Accounting under USGAAP and IFRS.
  • Managing and maintaining onshore and offshore team’s relationship in an effort to optimize resource usage, workload allocation and adherence to KPI/KRI standards
  • Continual assessment of control framework to ensure that sufficient controls are in place to minimize/mitigate operational risks
  • Supervisory oversight on various month end procedures, inclusive of Balance Sheet substantiation.
  • Build a strong network across multiple departments within the firm such as Trading, Risk, Technology and Operations with the goal to help streamline front to back processes.
  • Actively contribute in or process change initiatives through collaboration with other departments. 
  • Drive automation and digitalization initiatives to improve productivity and enhance controls

 

Skills, experience, qualifications, and knowledge required:

  • An undergraduate degree in accounting. Further professional qualifications, such as CFA, CPA, CIMA, ACA would be preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years' previous experience in Product Control, with strong technical knowledge of the products and their valuations.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel. Knowledge in VBA, Python, Power BI and Alteryx is preferred.
  • Individuals with proven track record of taking initiative to address issues as they arise and confident in analyzing and presenting complex financial data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with front office, middle office, operations and other finance colleagues.
  • Proactive team player with the ability to navigate effectively across multiple stakeholders and display leadership qualities to bring stakeholders together to achieve the desired result
  • Well-developed inter-personal skills
