Department overview:
Corporate Communications’ purpose is to protect and build Nomura’s brand and reputation. It is the central function that coordinates all internal and external communications activities for the company. The team in Asia ex-Japan consists of four functions: External Communications, Internal Communications, Branding & Marketing, and Corporate Citizenship

 

Role description:
Nomura is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join the firm’s External Communications team within the Corporate Communications department in Asia ex-Japan. The successful candidate will be a key member of a small regional team which is responsible for providing strategic advice to Nomura’s business and corporate heads on how to enhance and protect the Nomura brand through both proactive and reactive engagement with the media in Asia ex-Japan. The role will involve regular interaction with key target media, senior internal stakeholders and global Corporate Communications counterparts.

Areas of Responsibility
•    Arrange interviews, media teach-ins, press briefings, media conference calls
•    Draft and distribute press releases in both English and Chinese
•    Build and maintain relations with journalists and editors from international and Chinese language media organizations
•    Distribute research reports and follow up on inquiries from journalists
•    Prepare crisis communications
•    Track media engagement and compile media coverage reports 
•    Conduct competitor analysis
•    Maintain media contact databases
•    Prepare pitches for industry awards 
•    Create content for social media channels (WeChat, LinkedIn, X) and external websites in both English and Chinese
•    Coordinate with other teams within regional Corporate Communications


Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required:
•    University graduate in a communications or marketing-related field
•    Three to five years of experience in corporate communications/media relations (agency or in-house) or journalism, preferably with a focus on financial services
•    English, Cantonese and Mandarin speaker with an eloquent command of writing in both English and Chinese
•    Keen interest in learning about the finance industry
•    Good interpersonal and networking skills 
•    Tenacious spirit that works well under pressure
•    Solid work ethic, a good sense of humor and a strong team player
