Position Overview:
The Business Analytics Associate will play a key role in providing data-driven insights, analysis, and reporting to support various business functions within the investment banking division. The candidate will utilize their expertise in SQL, Python, Tableau, and project management to analyze complex data sets, create visualizations, and improve operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in global financial services, strong knowledge of trading operations, and the ability to work across business, technical, and operational teams to drive strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Extract, manipulate, and analyze large datasets from multiple sources (including trading systems) using SQL and Python to provide actionable insights to business leaders.
- Create and maintain dynamic dashboards and reports using **Tableau** or other visualization tools to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and trading operations metrics.
- Collaborate with various teams (trading, operations, risk, and technology) to define and refine reporting requirements that help drive informed decision-making.
Project Management:
- Lead and manage end-to-end data-driven projects, including defining objectives, timelines, and milestones to meet business goals.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to implement new analytics tools and solutions, ensuring timely project delivery.
- Manage stakeholder communications and expectations throughout project lifecycles, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Business Analysis:
- Work with stakeholders across the investment bank to understand business needs and translate them into data analysis and reporting requirements.
- Conduct deep dives into trading operations data to identify areas of improvement and operational inefficiencies, providing recommendations for optimization.
- Use business analysis techniques to capture and document business processes, data flows, and pain points, leading to effective data-driven decision-making.
Process Improvement and Automation:
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate manual processes within trading operations and other business functions through scripting (Python) and advanced data analytics.
- Develop and deploy tools that automate reporting and data extraction processes, freeing up time for more strategic tasks and analyses.
- Implement best practices in data management, ensuring data integrity and accuracy across all analyses and reporting efforts.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Partner with technology teams to integrate data analytics solutions into business systems and ensure data availability and quality.
- Communicate technical and analytical results to non-technical stakeholders, explaining complex concepts in simple, actionable terms.
- Serve as a liaison between business teams, traders, and IT departments to ensure the smooth operation of analytics tools and processes.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Support risk and compliance teams by providing analytical insights into trading operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Monitor trading data and identify trends or outliers that could indicate potential risks or compliance issues.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- **SQL**: Advanced proficiency in querying, extracting, and manipulating data from complex databases.
- **Python**: Strong experience in using Python for data analysis, automation, and scripting. Experience with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, and Matplotlib is a plus.
- **Tableau**: Proficiency in creating interactive and insightful dashboards using Tableau or similar visualization tools.
- **Excel**: Strong experience with advanced Excel functionalities, including pivot tables, macros, and data analysis tools.
Business and Industry Knowledge:
- Trading Operations: Solid understanding of global trading operations, including trade life cycle, settlements, and trade reconciliation processes.
- Financial Markets: Experience working in global financial services, with an understanding of equity, fixed income, derivatives, and other financial products.
Project Management Skills:
- Proven experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, with a focus on meeting deadlines and delivering results.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance both technical and business-related priorities.
Business Analysis:
- Experience gathering requirements, analyzing business processes, and translating business needs into technical solutions.
- Ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to identify opportunities for data-driven decision-making.
