Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation and operationalization of Front Office risk management controls, covering financial and non-financial risk types.
  • Partner with Business Control Leads in other regions, to drive delivery of global control frameworks, whilst ensuring regional requirements are appropriately catered for.
  • Facilitate training and awareness of Front Office staff in all relevant risk management frameworks, and explicitly, on the 1st line responsibilities they must adhere to.
  • Primary Front Office contact for 2nd line functions, acting as a conduit between 2nd line risk managers and 1st line risk owners.
  • Partner with Front Office management to implement an effective suite of trading controls, to meet the requirements of Executive Management, align to market best-practice, and ensure compliance with all required regulatory expectations.

Financial Risk:

  • Assist the business in complying with the minimum requirements set under the relevant Financial Risk Management frameworks (including Credit Risk, Market Risk and Liquidity Risk).
  • Support the development and generation of daily MI to demonstrate Front Office adherence to prescribed risk limits, triggers and action/escalation levels defined in the relevant policy documents.
  • Facilitate timely resolution of any breach of a financial risk limit/trigger/action/escalation level, by coordinating with the relevant Front Office risk owner(s) to understand the rationale behind the breach, and then work with 2nd line risk managers to agree an appropriate action plan to return risk levels to within acceptable appetite, in a timely manner.

Non-Financial Risk:

  • Act as the ‘Operational Risk Champion’ within Front Office and be ORM’s main contact person for operational risk matters within Front Office.
  • Assist the business in complying with the minimum requirements set under the Global ORM Framework (Event logging, risk and control assessment, Scenario Quantification, KRI data and breach management and action identification and remediation). Specifically: 
  • Monitor action plans relating to RCSAs, Events and KRI breaches and ensure timely remediation of actions and action plan updates.
  • Co-ordinate compliance with control testing for the function.
  • Oversee the timely investigation and recording of events (including near misses) and monitor mitigation procedures.
  • Timely escalation, reporting and oversight of all material operational risk matters.
  • Co-ordinate scenario workshop, quantification and sign off

 

  • Liaise with and seek assistance from the Operational Risk team
  • Consume ORM artefacts on updates or changes to the ORM Framework and ensure the timely and comprehensive dissemination within their business unit, this includes a feedback loop to ORM on any proposed changes

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in operational risk or controls function or in business management.
  • Understanding of 1st Line Risk & Control and familiarity with regional requirements.
  • Prior experience liaising with front office stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to push back when needed
  • Technical skills including proficiency in excel and tableau
